The Importance of Summer Skin Care
During no time of the years is skin care more important than in the summer. When the weather is warm and the sun is shining is when your skin is most vulnerable to sun damage and oiliness. While getting out in the sun is a great way to get your skin’s natural Vitamin D production pumping, it can also cause premature aging symptoms and even increase your risk of cancer if proper skin care is not practiced.
Make sure your sunscreen is rich in zinc oxide and has a high SPF to prevent damaging the skin while you are out being active. In addition to this, if you live in a buggy area and wish to use bug repellant as well, make sure it is rich in Vitamin B. Not only is Vitamin B an essential antioxidant for your skin, but when it is released again it produces an odor undetectable by humans but offensive to bugs.
Also pay attention to your lips; if you are practicing good skin care they should remain nice and smooth through the changes in weather. If they start to get dry, flaky, or even start cracking, then invest in lip protection with a low to medium SPF value. Definitely don’t use Vaseline or petroleum jelly as this doesn’t have the nutrients that your lips need. Invest in a good skin care product specifically aimed at protecting the lips and you should be fine.
Finally, the best thing you can do for your skin in the heat of the summer is to drink water, and lots of it. As the weather gets hotter and dryer, you will start to lose more and more moisture through your skin as it starts to work overtime. Make sure it has the hydration it needs to do its job and you should have a happy, healthy summer of smooth, supple skin.
